Seedz Cafe

photo (11)Hannah came into town for her fall break last week and we planned another girls day for the three of us. We went to Grant’s Farm in the morning and had so much fun feeding the goats and camels. By the time we were done looking at all the animals we were starving, so not having anywhere to eat we turned to Google. Seedz Cafe was the first restaurant that popped up when we searched for organic restaurants so we thought we would try it out. It turned out to be an adorable little organic and vegan cafe style restaurant that had the highest quality food we have found so far. This one was a definite winner and we can’t wait to go back! Overall rating

Food

Their menu was fairly small, with a juice, smoothie, desert menu, and only about 10 actual entrees. Usually restaurants with such limited options are very disappointing for us because it’s hard to find something that looks good and follows our dietary restrictions, but the only hard thing about ordering here was deciding what to get! Everything sounded delicious so we ended up ordering 4 entrees and 4 desserts (we tried to control ourselves but we couldn’t resist) and shared it between the three of us.

As an appetizer we got the Veggies and Hummus which was made with sprouted chickpeas and organic vegetables and crackers. The first entree that we got was a chickpea Veggie Burger which they made gluten free by serving on a bed of lettuce instead of a sprouted bun! This was our favorite by far and we get this every time we come! We also got the Rawfreddo which was zucchini noodles with cashew cream and pesto sauce. The sauce really didn’t have much of a flavor to it and we probably wouldn’t get that again. The last entree we got was the Tostados, which was also one of our favorites. It was served with sprouted crunchy corn tortillas, black beans, sprouted brown rice and lettuce with guacamole, salsa, and olives.

For dessert we got a Cacao Chocolate Ball, Coconut Macaroon Ball, Raw Pumpkin Cheesecake, and a Raw Peanut Butter Cup. The coconut macaroon ball was one of our favorites. It had a mild coconut taste and was much sweeter than the Cacao ball. The peanut butter cup was our other favorite. It tasted like a normal Reese’s but much less sweet. It was very rich and we enjoyed it.

Overall we thought the food was very good, but mild in seasoning.  What made us more excited about eating it was knowing what high quality it was!

Tried and True Favorites:

  • Raw Pad Thai
  • Veggie Burger (made gluten free)
  • Tostadas
  • BBQ Black Bean Burger (made gluten free)
  • Incredible Smoothie

Quality

The quality of the food at this restaurant was quite impressive. All of the ingredients were organic, with several foods coming from bio-dynamic farms practicing an even higher level of practice supporting the environment.

While I carry my own water every where I go, I was astounded to find that their water is probably the best available in Saint Louis. One of the owners explained to me how they use a strong filtration system, including one to eliminate toxic fluoride, but that they also put minerals back into the water. Very exciting!!

When I inquired about fats used in their foods, I was told that they only use coconut and olive oils, two of the most nutrient dense oils available.

They hit a home run once more when I asked about the use of soy. Many vegetarian restaurants mistakenly use many soy ingredients in their foods. Seedz does use soy, but they use it sparingly in a nutrient dense form that our bodies can utilize. They serve miso and other fermented organic soy products. (Michelle)

Price $$

All of the entree’s were around $10 which was extremely reasonable for the portions they give you and the amazingly high quality of food they provide.

Atmosphere IMG_0964 (1)

The restaurant was very small so you could see some people working in the kitchen because it was not entirely closed off from the rest of the restaurant. It had a very natural, earthy feel to it. The windows were open which provided a nice cool breeze. They used a high raised window sill along the large window walls as some of their seating . They had tables that looked like nicely finished tree stumps. They also had more modern seating as an option if you wanted something that felt more “normal”. It was decorated with flowers, vases, candles and a cute guitar hanging from the wall. (Miriam)

Location

They are located in Demun, in a cute little neighborhood near a small park and a candy shop (not healthy!)
