Local Harvest Cafe

008We finally made it back to Local Harvest Cafe, located near Tower Grove Park. We combined our trip with a visit to their famous outdoor Farmer’s Market and a bike ride through Forest Park! We had been here once before with and were quite impressed with the quality of the food, but the service was quite slow. Going back, the service could not have been more prompt and the food was just as delicious as we remembered it to be! We visited Saturday for brunch, but were advised that Sundays can be a bit more crowded. We were also advised by our knowledgeable and delightful waitress that the restaurant experienced major ownership changes a couple of years ago, which could have explained the change in service.

Overall Rating: ★★★★

Food: ★★★★

Our food was delicious. I dragged my hubbie with me on this trip and he ordered the veggie burger, while I enjoyed the vegetarian quiche. We both enjoyed home made Kombuchas for our drinks. The quiche served on top of salad was delicious.

Quality: ★★★★

The restaurant appears to be highly committed to using local and organic foods. The waitress advised us that they use mostly organic and local produce, all GMO free. They do not have a water filter and use canola oil for cooking, which is a processed, unhealthy oil.

They  rate high with an admirable 4 stars out of 5 possible, from the Green Dining Alliance which rates for sustainable practices including commitment to using local, organic ingredients and recyclable materials, with a low environmental impact.

Atmosphere: ★★

The atmosphere is cozy and casual. It is a small cafe near Tower Grove Park with informal seating and tables. It is very comfortable.

Service: ★★★★

The service was excellent. We were seated promptly and our waitress was efficient and friendly. There was an error made with one of our entrees, but it was quickly resolved.

Price $

A bargain for  the quality of the food. Entrees were in the  $10 range, with most under $10. The kombuchas were $4 which seemed a bit high, but they were absolutely delicious and homemade, a bargain for the quality, considering you can pay a couple dollars for carbonated, processed sugar water aka as soda in most restaurants.

Location: The restaurant is adjacent to Tower Grove Park, just south. To learn more about this fantastic restaurant check out their website:  Local Harvest Cafe and Catering

(Update: February 2016) It appears that Local Harvest is now focused on providing high quality foods through their catering services.
