After seeing a booth from I Scream Cakes at the Saint Louis Fair Festival this past summer and trying a delicious vegan, gluten free, AND organic ice cream cone, I have been dying to visit their store and see what they have to offer! We were so excited to discover this local ice cream shop and enjoyed tasting their delicious treats! It was a fun end to a day of eating and walking around the Botanical Gardens!
Overall Rating ★★★★
Food ★★★★★
The menu focuses on delicious home made ice cream treats and ice cream cakes that make you want to scream for more! They also serve some hot drinks like coffee cocoa, and cider! They have gluten free cakes and make a wide variety of ice cream cakes to order, which they can decorate in really unique ways. Check out their Gallery to see all of their cool creations!
We were able to sample many of their flavors including a fun blueberry cheesecake flavor, organic vanilla, and their vegan peanut butter chocolate ice cream. That one was made with coconut milk and was extra creamy and rich!
They had some ice creams with a little local Schlafly beer in them, which tasted really good, but made some of their flavors not gluten friendly. We got 3 different flavors of ice cream, which were so creamy and delicious that we decided we had to try one of their ice cream cupcakes. So we got one made with gluten free vanilla cake, chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and chocolate ganache.
Lucky for us there was a birthday coming up so we decided to try one of their ready made cakes that they conveniently had in their freezer. It was chocolate cake with peppermints ice cream and chocolate ganache and it was a huge hit! We went with a smaller size than we usually get for birthdays, but because of it’s rich flavor the small pieces were perfect.

Quality ★★★★
The manager and owner were very nice and helpful! They advised us that they use local ingredients and organic whenever possible. They always use organic cream, milk and eggs for their ice cream. They use rice, tapioca and potato starch in their gluten free cakes. Unfortunately, they do use regular dye for their cake decorations though. We have found through other bakeries and our own baking experiences that it is hard to find natural food dye, but not impossible!
They do not filter the water for their coffees and drinks, but we were told that they do let their water sit out for an hour or two which is suppose to help rid it of some of the bad minerals.
They also try to be very eco friendly by composting their silverware, cups, napkins and plates! They earned a 3 star rating out of 5 stars from the Green Dining Alliance for sustainable practices which exceed acceptable levels.
Atmosphere ★★★★★
The atmosphere was cheerful and bright with local art decorating some walls, The tables were colorful and it was an ideal atmosphere for an ice cream shop.
Service ★★★★★
The service was good. The manager was friendly and tried to answer all of our food questions. We were the only ones in the shop at the time, so it was a relaxed experience.
Price $$
Their ice cream is a little bit pricier than most, but their higher prices are justified by their use of higher quality ingredients, which tend to be more expensive.
Location
They are located on Cherokee Avenue, next door to Black Bear bakery. The area seems to have several shops/eateries and to be devoted to the local, organic foods movement.
You will also find their booth at some local events in the warmer months, including Tower Grove Farmers Market!
Address: 2641 Cherokee Street, Saint Louis, MO 63118
